The 1st edition of the European Commission's new magazine, "European Industrial Research", looks at the central role of industrial research in facilitating the change in Europe to a knowledge-based society. It also provides a round-up of the latest news and views on industrial research.


Surveys have shown that the development of electronic commerce, more than any other service, is based mainly on consumer confidence. Full information at the time of purchase, security of the transactions, respect of delivery leadtimes, confidentiality: these are the pillars of confidence which can turn website visitors into loyal customers. To enable the exchanges to take place, the Ministry of Economic Affairs organises an international congress on trustmarks in electronic commerce.
