On July 30th the European Research Council (ERC) published three new Starting Grants jointly amounting EUR 523 million. These calls for proposals target young talented scientists with promising projects in three areas of study. The first one is devoted to Physical Sciences and Engineering and is open until this 28th of October. The call for Life Sciences closes on the 18th of November, while the Starting Grant for Social Sciences and Humanities stretches out to the 9th of December.
COST invites researchers throughout Europe to submit proposals for research networks and use this unique opportunity to exchange knowledge and to embark on new European perspectives. Further to the launch of the reformed PhD and postdoc grant scheme 'Aides à la Formation-Recherche (AFR)' on 1st October 2008, the new scheme managed by the FNR has already selected a total of 130 projects (96 PhD and 32 postdoc projects; for 5 projects: decision pending). The reform was a real success. Compared to the former BFR scheme, the number of incoming proposals has more than doubled. Approximately 2/3 of the applications are targeting PhD grants and 1/3 postdoc grants. .../....
The launch conference aims at shaping the future agenda of European cooperation in R&D. Representatives from politics, administration, industry and science shall discuss the future of international cooperation in research and work towards constructing a frame of action for reinforcing EUREKA. The conference will address Europe's global competitiveness and the potential of international cooperative R&D in the light of current major trends and issues.
