Isabelle Mossong is a young and promising researcher from Luxembourg. Pre-selected by the National Research Fund (FNR) for a member position with the prestigious Ecole française de Rome (EFR) following an open call, she was officially selected on 25 April 2012 by EFR's Commission for recruitment for a two-year stay at this renowned institution, starting from summer 2012.

On Thursday 26 April 2012, the Public Research Centre Henri Tudor presented its 2011 Annual Report under the motto "With Tudor, the RTO model integrates Luxembourg public research". The presentation focused first on the 2011 key figures and subsequently on the willingness of the Centre to enhance its character as a "Research and Technology Organisation" (RTO).

Luxinnovation, the National Agency for Innovation and Research, presented on Thursday 26 April 2012 its Activity Report for the year 2011 in the presence of Mrs Francoise Hetto-Gaasch, Minister of Small and Medium-Sized Businesses and Tourism. Based on the results achieved in 2008-2010 and as part of the 2nd performance contract for 2011-2013, Luxinnovation has in 2011 strengthened its work with businesses and public research organisations in order to mobilise their innovation potential, particularly in sectors of key importance for the Luxembourg economy.

The Public Research Centre Henri Tudor and its partners Enovos and Klimawelt, with the support of KPMG, organise a conference on 8 May 2012 at 9:00 am about eco-mobility in Luxembourg. It is part of the eMobility exhibition that will take place from 5 to 13 May 2012 alongside the Spring Fair at Luxexpo, Luxembourg. Come and discover electric vehicles and alternative mobility solutions during the during the fair that received more than 70 000 visitors in 2011!


After the great success of the International Summer Schools on GNSS 2007 to 2011, the European Space Agency and its partners are organising the 2012 ESA International Summer School on Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS). It is part of ESA’s Education Strategy on GNSS to promote European universities in the training of graduate students, PhD candidates, early-stage researchers and young professionals in view of the high demand of well-educated personnel for the European GNSS activities. The event will take place from 16 to 26 July 2012 in France.


In order to help place Luxembourg among those nations that show a superior level of commitment to fostering research, development and innovation (RDI) on a national and European level, it is with great enthusiasm and optimism that CRP Henri Tudor and CRP Gabriel Lippmann have announced their decision to join forces.This merger will be the foundation for the future “New CRP” and will, in the beginning, employ more than 700 scientists, research engineers and highly qualified innovation specialists.


According to results of a recent survey commissioned by the Federal Association for Information Economy, Telecommunications, and New Media, three-fourths of German internet users are feeling threatened. Reasons cited include computer viruses, internet fraud, and data misuse. The Center for IT Security, Privacy and Accountability (CISPA) of Saarland University, Germany, and the University of Luxembourg's Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT) have recently agreed upon a mutual course for the strategic development of new and integrative approaches to addressing key IT security concerns.


HORIZON2020 will be the European Commission's next Framework Programme for Research and Innovation (2014-2020). With a budget of approximately €80 billion, the programme will aim to secure Europe's global competitiveness. In order to collect the opinions of European citizens, the Commission EU is now launching a public consultation on Future Network Technologies Research and Innovation in HORIZON2020. Daniel Tröhler, Professor of the University of Luxembourg and Swiss citizen, is one of the first European and the first German-speaking person to receive the Outstanding Book Award in Curriculum History from the American Educational Research Association (AERA) for his book "Languages of Education: Protestant Legacies, National Identities and Global aspirations". His research focuses on the history of educational systems in Luxembourg.

The opening of the exhibition "DESIGN+, added value through product design" took place on 27 March 2012 in the brand new premises of the Order of Architects and Consulting Engineers (OAI) and the Luxembourg Association of Engineers, Architects and Industrials (ALIAI). "DESIGN+" was organised by Luxinnovation, the National Agency for Innovation and Research, with the aim to highlight how innovation processes can benefit from design. 2012 GENIAL Competition: Great prizes for GENIOUS ideas

Since January, the 2012 edition of the competition "Concours GENIAL" aims to promote innovation and creativity amongst young people by encouraging them to express and develop new, creative and original ideas. A jury of experts and great prizes await the best ideas: in addition to prizes of EUR3,000 offered by Luxinnovation, participants can win prizes sponsored by the "Parc d'aventures scientifiques PASS", the Technik-Museum in Speyer, the Ministry of Culture, the Casino Luxembourg – Forum d’art contemporain and the Centre d’Information pour les Jeunes (JIC). Ideas can be submitted until 30 April 2012.


On the occasion of the 5th edition of the Luxembourg Intellectual Property Day, the Intellectual Property Office of the Ministry of the Economy and Foreign Trade, in collaboration with Luxinnovation, the Technology Watch Centre (CRP Henri Tudor) and Luxembourg for Business, is pleased to invite you to the conference "Intellectual Property: an economic challenge for Luxembourg". The conference will be held on Thursday 26 April 2012 from 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Philharmonie (Luxembourg-Kirchberg).


The General Assembly of the Luxembourg Association of Engineers (ALI) took place on 22 March 2012. Mr Yves Elsen was unanimously re-elected as president. The central theme for the year 2012/2013 will be to "reposition the engineering and science professions in the life of society".
