Competences
Main axes of research
Based on the disciplinary competencies of its members, LCMI research unit undertakes interdisciplinary research in fields of the educational sciences, social and cognitive psychology, applied and socio linguistics, history, sociology and theory of education.
The interdisciplinary approach helps to develop an understanding of education as a broad cultural practice and as a phenomenon on two levels: the social level of the educational system and the level of individual interactions in educational processes. The focus on situated processes of learning and development helps to develop efficient and inclusive pedagogic practices, concepts and tools as well as to steer knowledge for educational policy and language policy in plurilingual and multicultural contexts.
Competency development of actors in the educational domain, most notably teachers, is also addressed, namely teachers’ competencies in assessing, testing and evaluating learning outcomes.
The different research projects aim at enhancing internationally accepted scientific and applied knowledge from sociological, socio-constructivist, socio-cultural, psychological, cultural-historical, and critical perspectives.
The scientific cooperation and quality of the different research expertise within the research unit are organised in five distinguished research fields:
- Language ecology and plurilingual literacies
- Tracing learning processes
- History and theory of education and curriculum
- Research on Development, Interaction, Cognition and Activity – DICA
- Professionalization of actors in educational fields
