Through the ATTRACT programme, the National Research Fund (FNR) aims to attract young, qualified and promising researchers to Luxembourg. The programme targets researchers that are not yet established in Luxembourg and offers them the opportunity to set up an independent research activity within a public-sector research institution in Luxembourg. The objective of the programme is to support researcher mobility and to promote the career development of promising researchers.

ATTRACT is open for outstanding young researchers who can demonstrate between 2 and 8 years of professional experience in their research field after the successful completion of their PhD studies (career breaks are taken into account).

Eligible research projects should be innovative and of a high scientific quality. Projects must have a duration of 5 years and be carried out jointly with a public research institution in Luxembourg. The researcher should manage both the project and the research team.

In principle, the programme accommodates all research themes. However, since projects are carried out jointly with public research institutions in Luxembourg, they need to be in line with the topics addressed by one of the institutions.

In order to participate, interested researchers should submit project proposals to the FNR by answering calls for project proposals, which are published annually. Proposals should be submitted jointly by the candidate and the Luxembourg host research institution within the deadlines specified in the calls. A researcher can only submit one  proposal. Researchers that have submitted proposals to earlier calls are excluded from the programme.
