Private sector promoters of research and development (R&D) and innovation projects can benefit from several aid schemes and measures.
Amended law of 5 June 2009 relating to the promotion of research, development and innovation
The amended law of 5 June 2009 relating to the promotion of research, development and innovation extends the possibilities for financial support to companies who launch innovation activities. The law of 5 June 2009 was amended by the article 38 of the budget law of 29 April 2014 which states that the duration of the application of the law to aid schemes below, has been extended until 31 December 2014.
The support is particularly adapted to the needs of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs).
The law allows granting specific RDI support according to the following aid schemes and measures:
The support provided by the different aid schemes of the law cannot be accumulated for the same expenses.
Other R&D and innovation support
Medium and long-term loans can be granted to industrial enterprises and service-providing companies by the Société Nationale de Crédit et d'Investissement (SNCI).
The SNCI may also grant to SMEs a direct loan for research, development and innovation or a loan for innovative enterprises.
Finally, an indirect development loan is granted through Luxembourg banks agreed to the SNCI, to companies realising an expansion project, replacement, innovation, creation or recovery and having a key impact on national economic development.
