

Smart technologies to avoid traffic jams and to increase the cruising range of electro cars are developed and tested by scientists of the University of Luxembourg. Within the Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT) at the University of Luxembourg, research groups have equipped a Renault Twizy car and a Smart car with high-tech devices to develop sensors and software tools for the automobile of the future. At the end of 2012, the University of Luxembourg had approximately 6,300 students, compared to 5,700 the previous year. This annual growth rate of ten percent confirms the trend that started long ago. The research activities also experience significant growth: last year, the University of Luxembourg received nearly €27 million of external research funding from the European Union, the National Research Fund, Chairs and other partners. These resources represent a considerable increase of the approximately €20 million allocated the previous year.

The Eco-Innovation Call 2013 will fund the market launch of eco-innovative products and processes. Endowed with 31.6 m€, the call targets mostly SMEs and is open to individual projects. Deadline is 05 September 2013.
