Search

Simple search

A simple search can be launched from any page of the site by using the "search" field, which is always located in the top right-hand corner.

You can fill in one or several words. The search results will show all the html pages and the other formats of indexed documents (such as MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint and PDF files), which contain the searched word or words.

Advanced search

The page listing the simple search results also provides a link which allows you to launch an advanced search. The advanced search allows you to narrow your search by specifying several parameters:

  • All the following words
  • This exact expression
  • At least one of the following words
  • None of the following words

All the following words

The search results will show all the html pages and other formats of indexed documents, which contain the searched word or words (simple search).

Ex: " speech Minister research infrastructure " will find all the html pages which contain at the same the words "speech", "Minister" "research" and "infrastructure".

This exact expression

The search results will show all the html pages and other formats of indexed documents, which contain exactly the expression filled in (in the order in which the words were entered in the search box).

Ex: "speech of the Minister on research infrastructure" will find all the pages, which contain exactly this expression.

At least one of the following words

The search results will show all the pages which contain at least one of the searched words.

Ex: "speech Minister research infrastructure " will find all the html pages and other formats of indexed documents, which contain either the word "speech", or the word "Minister" or the word "research", or the word "infrastructure", or those which contain several of these words.

None of the following words

Each of the 3 functions described above can be associated with the function of excluding one or several words.

Ex: A search of "research infrastructure speech" with the value "all the following words" in the first field and "Minister" filled in under "none of the following words " will find all the html pages (and other formats of indexed documents) which contain the words "speech", "research" and "infrastructure" BUT NOT the word "Minister".

Search in specific sections

You can narrow your search to one or several sections / sub-sections of the site. (Default value is "The whole site", e.g. a search on all the sections of the site, as for a simple search). To select several sections and/or sub-sections, hold the "CTRL" key down and click on the desired section.

Search by dates

You can narrow your search to documents of a given period by specifying the date of the beginning and the date of the end of such period. The default value is "anytime".

Search in the titles / texts

You can start a search either on the overall contents – titles and texts – of the indexed documents (default value), or only on the document titles (e.g. to specify the search).

The display of results

You can choose the number of results to be listed per page (10, 20 or 50) and determine whether the list of results will be sorted by relevance (default value), by date or by type of document (html files, MS Word files, RTF files, PDF files, etc.).

The search results are presented in the following manner:

  • Number of results found
  • Percentage of relevance of the document with regard to the searched expressions / title of the document / date of the document / format of the document / size of the document in Kb
  • Summary of the document (if available)
  • Link to the document

At the bottom of the page, you can browse through the number of pages of results found.
