Gabriel Lippmann Public Research Centre

The CRP - Gabriel Lippmann is a public establishment devoted to applied scientific research and technological development, as well as technology transfer and permanent high-level training. Its activities aim to reinforce the economic fabric of the country through the creation of new technological skills within the CRP - Gabriel Lippmann and by transfering this know-how to companies.

In a view of the current major stakes in terms of sustainable development, both scientific and technological as well as economic and environmental, the CRP - Gabriel Lippmann has focused on four major axes:

innovative materials technology, in particular nanotechnologies and instrumental development;
sustainable management of natural resources;
technologies of the information society;
and automobile equipment.

Research work is carried out by more than 140 researchers, teacher-researchers and 3rd year trainees, within four research departments:

Cooperative IT based on NTIC, e-commerce and knowledge management are the subject of the research activities and skills transfer of ISC (IT, Systems and Collaboration Department);
The study of ecosystems, hydro-climatological monitoring and agro-biotechnologies are the competence of EVA (Environment and Agro-biotechnologies Department);
Material analyses on an atomic scale with a view to improve or develop innovative materials, instrumental development, and the recent establishment of a European Nanotechnology Centre are the tasks of SAM (Science and Analysis of Materials Department);
Research for Luxembourg companies in the automobile sector is the last of the research lines and is the speciality of REA (Research in Equipment for the Automobile Industry Department).

Since its foundation in July 1987, the Gabriel Lippmann PRC has adopted an original approach by striking a balance between the criteria of economic benefit and scientific quality, rather than favouring one as opposed to the other. In this way, it continues to be actively involved in partnerships with companies and national authorities while, at the same time, successfully carrying out several new research projects with European financing and joining forces to introduce new university structures in Luxembourg.
